BIOGRAPHY

Tunisian actress, director and producer Afef Ben Mahmoud began a rich artistic career at an early age, initially as a contemporary dancer and then as an actress in numerous television shows, theatre productions and films. She held lead roles under major Tunisian directors, including Nouri Bouzid's Making Of and The Scarecrows, and more recently in Streams by Mehdi Hmili, receiving Best Actress awards at the Cairo International Film Festival in 2021 and at Vues d'Afrique. Afef set up her own production company, Mésanges Films, and produced Nouri Bouzid's The Scarecrows, which premiered in the official selection of the 2019 Venice Film Festival and won the Human Rights Award. She co-produced and co-directed with Khalil Benkirane her first feature, Backstage, which premiered in competition at Giornate degli Autori in Venice 2023, winning the Cinema & Arts Award. She holds master's degrees in Economics and Management, and in directing and screenwriting, followed by a Master of Research in Image Design.

Tuniska glumica, rediteljka i producentkinja Afef Ben Mahmud od ranih godina gradi bogatu umjetničku karijeru, najprije kao savremena plesačica, a potom kao glumica u brojnim televizijskim, pozorišnim i filmskim ostvarenjima. Igrala je glavne uloge u filmovima značajnih tuniskih reditelja, među kojima su Making Of i Strašila Nurija Buzida, te nedavno Streams Mehdija Hmilija, za koji je dobila nagrade za najbolju glumicu na Međunarodnom filmskom festivalu u Kairu 2021. i na festivalu Vues d'Afrique. Osnovala je produkcijsku kuću Mésanges Films i producirala film Strašila Nurija Buzida, premijerno prikazan u zvaničnoj selekciji Filmskog festivala u Veneciji 2019, gdje je osvojio nagradu za ljudska prava. Sa Halilom Benkiranom koproducirala je i korežirala svoj prvi dugometražni film Backstage, prikazan u takmičarskom programu Giornate degli Autori u Veneciji 2023, gdje je osvojio nagradu Cinema & Arts. Ima magistarske diplome iz ekonomije i menadžmenta i iz režije i scenarija, kao i Master of Research iz dizajna slike.
